For the last 10 years Guildford East Explorer Scouts have helped 4 remote hillside villages and 1 school with the installation of clean drinking water supplies.
Our last expedition was this Easter (2015) to a village called Gumda in the Lower Manaslu district of Gorkha. Two weeks after our return, the earthquake hit Nepal. It’s epicentre was less than 10 miles from Gumda.
Mountain Monarch Staff have now established contact with all four villages and visited Betal. Access to Gumda is still difficult due to landslides etc.
The status of our 4 hillside villages as at 22/5/2015 is:
Nepani (Annapurna) - Minor structural damage
Betal (Langtang) - Heavy damage to property. Some fatalities number unknown
Ranem (Solu Khumbu) - Minor Structural damage
Gumda (Lower Manaslu) - Major structural damage, 3 fatalities.
A big thank you to everyone. In total we raised a staggering £32,000 to rebuild Nepal
